Dr Dia Adhikari Smith is a Research Academic and the Tritium Fellow at the University of Queensland’s Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation and the School of Civil Engineering. Her research focuses on advancing the performance, economics, and uptake of lower-emission technologies globally, with particular emphasis on the decarbonisation of both on-road and non-road heavy vehicles used in transport, construction, and mining sectors. With expertise in crafting solutions for low and zero-emission heavy vehicles — harnessing electric, hydrogen, and advanced biofuels — Dia’s contributions have been magnified through collaborations with industry and government entities. These partnerships have been instrumental in conducting rigorous decarbonisation feasibility studies, insightful cost-benefit analyses, total ownership cost scenarios, emissions modelling, scenario testing, and formulating strategic blueprints along with policy recommendations to champion the cause of net zero emissions. Dia has a PhD in Power and Energy Systems Engineering from Glasgow Caledonian University, UK, and worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Integrated Renewable Energy Generation and Supply, Cardiff University, UK.
