Simon Smart is an Associate Professor in the School of Chemical Engineering at The University of Queensland. Simon is an internationally recognised expert in decarbonisation technologies, hydrogen production, and clean energy systems.
He is the Deputy-Director of the UQ Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation Centre where his team routinely assesses new decarbonisation processes for and the sustainable production and use of hydrogen to determine whether these are economically competitive and scalable, in addition to being environmentally and socially acceptable. He is the UQ Director of the Net Zero Australia study which illustrated 5 distinct net zero pathways for the entire Australian economy, including fossil exports.
Simon is also a Chief Investigator in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Green Electrochemical Transformation of Carbon Dioxide (GETCO2) which aims to forge technological breakthroughs to enable the transformation of CO2 into value-added products that underpin a circular carbon economy.
